Mr. Walter Ortiz

Principal / wortiz@ics-la.org

Mr. Ortiz has a combined nine years worth of experience in Catholic education.  He was the Junior High ELA teacher at St. Malachy School in South Los Angeles before entering Onward Leaders, the leadership formation program offered by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles through a generous partnership with the John and Cynthia Smet Foundation.  Mr. Ortiz spent a year as a Resident Principal at Sacred Heart Dual Language Immersion School in Lincoln Heights before taking on the position of principal at Immaculate Conception.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA and a Master’s in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University.

Betsy_LopezMrs. Betsy Lopez

Mrs. Lopez has been with ICS for a number of years as a parent, 2nd Grade Aide, Development Assistant, and now part of the Front Office Team.  All of Betsy’s children have attended ICS and she says she loves working and spending time at such a family oriented school and organization.

Mrs. Judy Gonzalez has been affiliated with ICS for over 25 years.  Her three children graduated from ICS and are now successful adults.  Ms. Judy began working at the school in the after-school program.  For a number of years she was the teacher aide in Grade 2.  When ICS opened its pre-school program in March 2010, Mrs. Judy became the co-teacher for our littlest Panthers. As of 2020, Mrs. Judy has taken the role of Preschool Director


Ms. Bianka Miranda

Ms. Bianka has been apart of ICS Preschool for three years. She received her MFA in Art from Cal State University Los Angeles. In 2022, she received an Infant and Toddler Teaching Certificate from Santa Monica College and will receive her Masters in Early Childhood Education.  



Ms. Lilly Barillas

Ms. Lilly has been a part of the ICS community for five years and has two children enrolled at the school. She is part of the Preschool team and enjoys working with young children. 



Mrs. Roxana Jorge

Instructional Aide 

Mrs. Roxana Jorge is known at ICS as Mrs. Garcia. She has been a part of the ICS community for several years and has three children enrolled at the school. Her oldest child attends Cathedral High school. She is part of the Preschool team and enjoys working with young children. 



Transitional Kindergarten Teacher / cmarin@ics-la.org

Ms. Cassie Marin is an alumni of ICS. She is a full-time student and the full time teacher. This is her first year as the Transitional Kindergarten teacher and has been working at ICS since 2018. Seeing how wonderful ICS was and has been to her, she wanted to give back to the ICS community by becoming a teacher.

Sra. Cueva has worked at ICS for many years. She runs the after-school care program in the afternoons and works as a teacher aide each morning in TK. Mrs. Cueva is the proud mother of two young adult sons, Walter and William, both graduates of ICS. 


Martha_RuizMrs. Martha Ruiz

Mrs. Ruiz has been personally involved in Catholic school environments since her own pre-school experience.  She believes that social-emotional learning is as important as academics for early education. Her warmth and kindness are evident with each family and child. Partnering with Mrs. Martha is a joy and parents love her constant communication. 


 Ms. Karla Muñoz

Ms. Karla Muñoz completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA and received her teaching credential from Cal State University at Long Beach. She has five years of experience in public schools as an assistant and afters school leader. She feels blessed for being part of the ICS Community. She looks forward to working closely with children and their families emphasizing Catholic values. This is her third year at ICS as a 1st grade teacher.

Valerie Jimenez

Ms. Valerie Jimenez

Ms. Valerie Jimenez received her BA in Political Science and Minor in US History form the University of California Riverside. She is hopes return to school to receive her Masters in Education. 2022 is her first year teaching, but she has worked with elementary students for over 10 years and for two of those years she was a Catechist teacher. She looks forward to continue teaching children whilst achieving her life long dream of becoming an Education Lawyer. 

Ms. Kimberly Ruiz

4th Grade Teacher / kruizs@ics-la.org

Ms. Kim has been in the public education field for about 11 years. After receiving her BS from
Cal State Sacramento, she is now ready to start a new chapter in teaching at ICS. When she
isn’t working with her students, Ms. Kim loves to spend time with her family.


Ms. Persis Piche 

5th Grade Teacher / ppiche@ics-la.org

Ms. Piche is an alumni and is returning to ICS after 11 years. She worked at ICS as the Computer Lab teacher and later as the 4th grade teacher. She earned a B.A in Psychology from California State University of Northridge and her M.A in Education from Loyola Marymount University. She is excited to be back at ICS and serve her community.

Mrs. Kathleen Turner

6th Grade Teacher / kturner@ics-la.org

Mrs. Kathleen Turner thinks back on three life experiences that have greatly shaped who she is today. The first experience is growing up on a ranch in Northeastern Oklahoma. The second event her religion studies at Baylor University. The third was living and teaching with Carmelite Sisters. From the ranch, she has learned a great deal about independence, self-reliance, and the care of all God’s creatures. From Baylor University, she encountered Dr. Tatum where she had the privilege to study with one of the preeminent Old Testament Scholars in the country. From the Sisters, Mrs. Turner learned the value of humbleness, sacrifice, and devotion. God created us each as individual with great purpose. She is honored to be at ICS teaching math and science. 


Mrs. Patricia Bachemin 

7th Grade Teacher / 6th-8th Grade Math / pbachemin@ics-la.org

Mrs. Patricia Bachemin is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach and has taught at Immaculate Conception since 1996.  She grew up in the parish, and knows the community well. Mrs. Bachemin was the kindergarten teacher for 20 years, the 3rd grade teacher for five years, and is now the 7th grade homeroom and 6th-8th Math teacher.

Lunch Program 

Sra. Zavala directs the Federal School Lunch Program at ICS.  She arrives bright and early each day to prepare breakfast for the students and then gets lunch ready, too!  After school she assists the daycare program.  Mrs. Zavala has three daughters who graduated from ICS.

Sra. Amaral is the proud mother and grandmother of two generations of ICS grads. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, as evidenced by her amazing cooking for the faculty and staff.



Sra. Natividad Villa


Dona Nati is a current ICS parent as well as a parent of two graduates.  Her son Omar was a member of the 100th graduating class of ICS and is the recipient an honors scholarship to Salesian High School.



Sr. Jesus Zavala


Sr. Zavala is the groundskeeper at ICS. He also helps in the kitchen and enjoys attending the children. Sr. Zavala is a proud father of three daughters who graduated from ICS.
