IMMACULATE CONCEPTION STAFF 2020-2021
Our faculty is focused on making our students better people, both intellectually and spiritually. As such, teachers are hired not only for their knowledge and certifications but for their moral and spiritual example they lead their students to follow.
Mrs. Murphy-Garcia (Ms. M.G.) first taught middle school at ICS in 2000 before pursuing graduate studies in urban planning at UCLA. Since returning to ICS in 2005, she has acquired an additional Master’s degree in education and California credential at Loyola Marymount University, plus Instructional Leadership training at Mt. St. Mary’s and a certificate in Technology Integration from LMU. In 2018 she was selected as one of five resident principals in Cohort 3 of of the prestigious Onward Leaders program. She spent a year as co-principal of ICS with Ms. Murphy to learn from the expert, before becoming principal in 2019. Both her children attended ICS.

Ms. Piche is an alumni and is returning to ICS after 11 years. She worked at ICS as the Computer Lab teacher and later as the 4th grade teacher. She earned a B.A in Psychology from California State University of Northridge and her M.A in Education from Loyola Marymount University. She is excited to be back at ICS and serve her community.

Mrs. Lopez had been with ICS for a number of years as a parent before joining the staff. All of Betsy’s children have attended ICS and she says she loves working and spending time at such a family-oriented school and organization.

Mrs. La Serna has dedicated almost 20 years to serve at ICSt. Her sons attended ICS, and in 1987 she was here to set up the luncheon tables for one very special guest, His Holiness Pope John Paul II.

Ms. Martha has been personally involved in Catholic school environments since her own pre-school experience. She believes that socio-emotional learning is as important as academics for early education. Her warmth and kindness are evident with each family and child. Partnering with Ms. Martha is a joy and parents love her constant communication. Both Ms. Martha's children attend ICS.

Ms. Judy has been affiliated with ICS for over three decades. Her three children graduated from ICS and are now successful adults. Ms. Judy began working at the school in the after-school program. For a number of years she was the teacher aide in Grade 2. When ICS opened its pre-school program in March 2010, Ms. Judy became the co-teacher for our littlest Panthers.

Ms. Sandra is an Immaculate Conception alumni, class of 2006. She has worked in the Early Childhood education field for five years. She loves teaching because she can impact children's lives, and watch them grow and learn. She is passionate about being a teacher at ICS because it is important for her to give back to the community that helped her grow and shaped her into the individual she is now.

Dona Nati is a current ICS parent as well as a parent of two graduates. Her son Omar was a member of the 100th graduating class of ICS and is the recipient of honors scholarship to Salesian High School.

Karla Muñoz completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA and received her teaching credential from Cal State University at Long Beach. She has five years of experience in public schools as an assistant and after school leader. She feels blessed for being part of the ICS Community. She looks forward to working closely with children and their families emphasizing Catholic values. This is her second year at ICS as a 1st grade teacher.

Mrs. Garcia has been a part of the ICS community for over 30 years. She started providing services for ICS on behalf of her two sons are graduates. She has worked as a teacher aide in kindergarten for many years. She loves working with children and is extremely grateful that her dream of working at ICS came true, thanks to Ms. Murphy.

Patricia Bachemin is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach and has taught at Immaculate Conception since 1996. She grew up in the parish, and knows the community well. Mrs. Bachemin was the kindergarten teacher for 20 years, the 3rd grade teacher for five years, and is now the 7th grade homeroom and 6th-8th Math teacher.

Sra. Cueva has worked at Immaculate Conception School for many years. She runs the after-school care program in the afternoons and works as a teacher aide each morning in Grade 1. Mrs. Cueva is the proud mother of two young adult sons, Walter and William, both graduates of ICS.

Vaneza Paredes received her B.A. in English from Loyola Marymount University, and is currently pursuing her M.A. in Education. Ms. Paredes has worked with elementary students from grades 1-5, and also spent two years working with pre-school aged children at Loyola Marymount University’s Children’s Center. This will be her second year at Immaculate Conception School as the fourth grade teacher.

Gloria Esqueda graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2015 with her bachelors in Child and Adolescent Development. She has a Masters in Education and her teaching credential from Mt Saint Mary's University. This is her fourth year teaching at ICS, and is now the 5th grade teacher.

Ms. Simon is an ICS alumni from the Class of 2008. She has her bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Loyola Marymount University. After two years in fourth grade, she is moved to middle school to teach 6-8 Science in 2019. Ms. Simon earned a Masters in Education as well as a clear credential in 2020.

Maddie Carr comes to Immaculate Conception through the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE), a Catholic service-teaching program. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Ms. Carr will receive her masters in Education from Notre Dame through the ACE program. Beginning her first year at ICS as the second grade teacher, she feels blessed to be living out her lifelong dream of teaching children and is grateful to have the opportunity to work closely with families to guide the intellectual and spiritual growth of all of her students.

Yrina Meza received her B.A. in English and Spanish from the University of California at Irvine. She looks forward to growing and pursuing higher education as well as instilling a love of learning and faith in her students.

Mr. Diaz has been the P.E. teacher and team coach for many years. He has coached boys and girls basketball and soccer as well as girls volleyball. Coach Diaz is a physician from Ecuador. His two younger children are both graduates of ICS.

Sra. Zavala directs the Federal School Lunch Program at ICS. She arrives bright and early each day to run the breakfast service for the students and then gets lunch service ready, too! After school she assists the daycare program. Mrs. Zavala has three daughters who graduated from ICS.

Sra. Amaral is the proud mother and grandmother of two generations of ICS grads. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, as evidenced by her amazing cooking for the faculty and staff.
