Until the fourth grade, Raul attended a local public school. However, as he grew older his parents became more aware of some of the dangers of gang activity, drugs and other issues he was going to be facing in the next couple of years. “My parents had heard of all the bad things that would happen in the middle school I was supposed to attend for my fifth grade and they did not want me going down the wrong path,” recalls Raul. Raul’s parents enrolled him at Immaculate Conception School (ICS) because of the reputation the school had for safety, academics and attention to teaching of God’s love. As a fifth grader; Raul started his new academic path at ICS. He and his three siblings would all go on to attend and graduate from Immaculate Conception School.
“At the time I did not know how good ICS was; I had thought it was just a normal school. Then I found myself getting A’s and some B’s in all my classes in High School. I now know it was all thanks to the attention given from my teachers and principal at ICS that allowed me to succeed in school,” said Raul.
Now as a father, Raul and his wife Rosa chose to also send their two daughters to Immaculate Conception School. His oldest daughter, Rosalia, graduated from ICS and is a senior at Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto High School. Their youngest daughter, Sophia, is currently in the first grade at ICS.
When Raul shared why they decided to send their daughters to ICS, he said, “For similar reasons as my parents did; I wanted a safe environment for my kids to learn and not have to worry about gangs, fights, and all the negative things that happen in some public schools. I also know that ICS will do a good job at helping my children’s faith in God grow.”
“I have also seen ICS grow from a modest school with basic tools for education, into a modern school with advanced educational tools for the kids to learn with. As well as parent workshops that are offered so that we, as parents, can have a better understanding of what is going on within the school.”
We are honored and proud that Raul, along numerous other alums, brought their children “home” to ICS!
